Review

“What a beautiful book it is! A treasured possession.” —Mary Beard “No astronomy book can claim to be as beautiful as the night sky, but Stories in the Stars comes closest! I'm learning something new every day and having a lot of fun in the process.” —Tristan Gooley, The Natural Navigator“Writer and astronomy lover Hislop explores all 88 constellations and artfully tells their stories in this singular book. . . . Hislop’s narratives are absorbing and often humorous. . . . Waldron’s illustrations are simple yet striking, a perfect complement to the delightful written pieces. While not an atlas in the literal sense, this book is a fun and fascinating examination of the cosmos. This accessible and engrossing title is recommended for those interested in astronomy, mythology, art, or history.” —Library Journal

Wow... I am always looking for new books about star mythology to share with my Astronomy students... the best thing abut this book is the cover. Once you open it up and read it all hope is lost... Some of the "stories" are not even suitable to read out loud in class. It is like someone neither a background in Astronomy nor Mythology decided to write a book about Astronomical Mythology. Is it Greek? Is it Roman? Who cares! Persian? Norse? Native American? Pish Posh just write a story and throw in some curse words... it's all good. Ugh.

Beware this book if you are actually looking for the true stories behind the constellations. I bought this for a research project for my child only to be dismayed when each story is the author's retelling only loosely based on the original stories. Nowhere in the description is this disclaimed, and now my child still has no research book and I have to start looking again. Very, very disappointed.

I was hoping for a book to share the stories/myths/legends/origins of the stars with my 5 year old but found this lacking. If all you want is a picture of constellations and a barely intelligible synopsis go for it. If you have no previous knowledge of constellations and are hoping for education this won't get you there.

Wonderful hardcopy to learn the stars. Great for beginners, too.

My wife loves anything to do with astronomy and the mysteries in space.

The book was it in good condition, but I was not a fan of this book. I found this book to be very boring and struggled to get through the first chapter. Would not recommend.

Love this, thanks!

I purchased this as a gift for my DIL and she loved it!
